About Renal Replacement Therapy

Once it is determined that a kidney transplant will be required, the patient, along with their physician, should carefully consider the advantages and disadvantages of three types of therapy:

  • Hemodialysis (in the hospital or at home)
  • Peritoneal Dialysis at home (CAPD)
  • Renal Transplantation (living donor or deceased organ donor, also called cadaveric donor)

A kidney transplant in Delhi is typically required for severe kidney failure, also known as stage V chronic kidney disease or end-stage renal disease (ESRD). At this stage, the kidneys are no longer functioning effectively, and waste products, as well as fluid, begin to build up in the blood.

Dialysis helps take over a portion of the failing kidneys' function by removing excess fluid and waste from the body. It is usually needed when 90% or more of kidney function is lost.
